Jim Barry

The 2004 Armagh is black-purple in colour. It displays a nose of lifted, aromatic, blueberry/blackberry cassis, cedary oak, spice and complex, underlying savoury characters. The palate is huge and dense, with fully integrated oak, yet still featuring complex fruits of plum, blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry. It shows deep, brooding consistency, with the flavour and texture of chocolate mudcake. This wine is ideal for long term cellaring. We suggest that the wine is allowed to ‘breathe’ a minimum of two hours before being consumed to fully appreciate the distinctive flavours and aromas.

Wine Advocate

One of the most colossal wines in all of my tastings was Jim Barry’s 2004 Shiraz The Armagh, a 100% Shiraz aged 16 months in French and American oak. It is an opaque purple-hued, super-intense effort displaying great precision and richness. Notes of melted asphalt, acacia flowers, blueberries, blackberries, charcoal, and espresso roast emerge from this full, dense, opulent Shiraz. The finish lasts for over 45 seconds. This is a great example of one of the icons of Australian Shiraz. Anticipated maturity: now-2025.

Score: 98. —Robert Parker, October 2006.

Wine Spectator

Bright and jazzy, with a red pepper edge to the cherry, green olive and spice flavors. The harmonious flavors linger against very fine tannins and lively acidity on the long finish. Drink now through 2014. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 75 cases imported.

Score: 92. —Harvey Steiman, September 30, 2007.

For older wine vintages, we make every effort to ensure that the wines are in top condition. It is Moe's Fine Wines' policy as well as the industry standard, that wines that are five years or older are purchased at the buyer's risk.
