Massolino
Appearance: bright garnet red interspersed with the typical colors of Barolo.
Bouquet: from very intensely flowery in the early years to the characteristic "goudron" of aged Barolo, through a vast range of subtly suggestive scents.
Flavor: probably the most potent of our products, it perfectly sums up the essential characteristics of Barolo wine; great body, its excellent alcoholic concentration and tannins to guarantee very long periods of ageing. It develops slowly and reaches its maximum and genuinely important expression only after ageing for several years. This wine is at its best when served with red meat, game, strong cheeses and rich, very tasty dishes in general. Not a wine which is easy to understand it will reward the trained and demanding palate with sensations which are simply unique.

Gorgeous nose of cut roses, raspberry, strawberry and Spanish cedar. Full-bodied, with powerful yet refined tannins. Incredible structure yet wonderful finesse. Goes on and on. A brick house. Best after 2010.

Wine Advocate
Readers looking for a more accessible vintage of the estate’s Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda will delight in the 2000. Though not terribly expressive in its aromatics, it reveals the vintage’s opulent qualities in its abundant super-ripe fruit and fleshy, supple personality. With some air it is drinking well today and will offer highly enjoyable drinking to at least age 15, if not beyond. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
